Navigation App Guidance

We'll make sure all run group leaders are properly equipped, but we encourage everyone to download an app if they want to follow along (or get disconnected from their group). You can choose from either REVER or Scenic depending on what kind of phone you have and personal preference. Both apps are great, and Scenic's only downfall is that it's STILL only available in beta for Android users, whereas REVER works like a charm on both platforms. Directions below to get you up and running on both apps.

!!! DO THIS BEFORE GETTING TO THE RESORT !!!

Cell service in the lot may be a little hit or miss, but should be fine in the lodge with WiFi. Still, don't be the person who is fumbling around Friday morning holding your group up.

FOR REVER USERS (Android + iPhone)

  1. Download the REVER app from your respective app store

  2. Create an account and login in the app

  3. Come back to this page ON YOUR PHONE and click the below link to access the Ruchlos Community on REVER

  4. Join the community; you’ll then see all routes under “Feature Rides” and be able to swipe left and right to access them and start navigation

FOR SCENIC USERS (iPhone only)

  1. Download the Scenic app from the App Store

  2. Create an account and login in the app

  3. On your PHONE BROWSER, make sure you log in Scenic's mobile site

  4. Come back to this page ON YOUR PHONE and click the link for each route. It will open another browser page on your phone with the route, and then click “Add to Scenic”

  5. Repeat step 3 for all routes

  6. All routes should then show up under “Routes” in the app

Friday

There are 4 distinct routes to get to lunch for you to choose from, and 3 of those 4 are available for the way back, just reversed (we're trying to avoid VA later in the day).

Switch up your post-lunch route for a new flavor, or heck, run what you did in the morning if you loved it so much.

Lunch is 11am-2pm at Smoke on the Water BBQ.

It's a Rallye, Not a Race

We're all out there to have a good time, so keep these 10 things in mind throughout the weekend

  1. Again, not a race! There is no timing and scoring, no corner workers or ambulance on site. Road rallies are for spirit. For camaraderie. Our hope is for lifelong friendships to be forged through experiences created in these old German hotrods.

  2. We are guests on the mountain. We love this area of the country and want to be invited back. Dip under the speed limit in town. Tread lightly around homes and businesses. Wave at everyone you pass! You’ll get a lot of waves back.

  3. These roads are sparsely traveled, but you will encounter trucks/heavy equipment, motorcycles, and all kinds of critters. Keep an eye out for fellow rallye goers as some of the routes go out and return on the same roads. You will have very limited cell reception and the closest hospital is over an hour away.

  4. Each morning you’ll have cold tires, cold brakes, and cold brains. Take it slow and warm each of them accordingly.

  5. Crossing a double yellow centerline is never cool. If you’re driving at a fraction of you and your car’s ability, there’s no need to cross over. Also, give local drivers you encounter some space – they’ll rarely hold you up for more than a mile or two before they pull off or you can safely pass.

  6. This is a vintage rallye. We recommend putting the lighter “momentum cars” out in front of your run groups. These lower HP cars set a nice pace that minimizes the “accordion effect.”

  7. You are responsible for the rally goer behind you. Enter the chain method. Check up when turning onto the next road and make sure you can see them. If you can't, toss your hazards on and slow down. The car ahead of you will then do the same and so on, until the group can get back together.

  8. Bring an FRS radio. These are invaluable in keeping your group together and aware of potential hazards.

  9. It’s advisable for lead cars to have a co-driver to navigate and radio back to the cars behind. Set a reasonable pace. At 10/10ths you have no room to slow down should you need to. Build pace slowly. Take time to get comfortable with the car, the conditions, and your run group’s ability.

  10. Just remember, we’re on vacation! Stop along the way to check stuff out. The map is filled with bangers but there’s time built into the day to explore. Take your time and enjoy - you have no one to impress. Be safe and let’s have fun.
