Weekend Itinerary

Navigation App Guidance

We'll make sure all run group leaders are properly equipped, but we encourage everyone to download an app if they want to follow along (or get disconnected from their group). Like last year, we're using Scenic as our primary app but it's not yet available on Android, so everything is loaded onto REVER for you green bubble folks. Directions below to get you up and running.

DO THIS BEFORE GETTING TO THE MOUNTAIN. There is very little cell service up there, so don't be the person who is fumbling around Friday morning holding your group up.

FOR SCENIC USERS (iPhone only)

  1. Download the Scenic app from the App Store

  2. Create an account and login in the app

  3. Come back to this page ON YOUR PHONE and click the link for each route. It will open another browser page on your phone with the route, and then click “Add to Scenic”

  4. Repeat step 3 for all routes

  5. All routes should then show up under “Routes” in the app

FOR REVER USERS (Android + iPhone)

  1. Download the REVER app from your respective app store

  2. Create an account and login in the app

  3. Come back to this page ON YOUR PHONE and click the below link to access the Ruchlos Community on REVER

  4. Join the community; you’ll then see all routes under “Feature Rides” and be able to swipe left and right to access them and start navigation

Friday

We're heading north to the town of Elkins to dine on a fine local feast of BBQ. Wear those spandex pants.

Lunch is 11am-2pm at Smoke on the Water BBQ Joint.

Check out Spruce Knob, the highest point in WV, for some incredible views and take in nature's canvas at Seneca Rocks.

Saturday

We're putting the wild west in West Virginia as we head out to the quaint town of Clendenin.

Lunch will be 12-2pm.

Down home comfort food and local musical treasures await, so don't be late...

It's a Rallye, Not a Race

We're all out there to have a good time, so keep these 10 things in mind throughout the weekend

  1. Again, not a race! There is no timing and scoring, no corner workers or ambulance on site. Road rallies are for spirit. For camaraderie. Our hope is for lifelong friendships to be forged through experiences created in these old German hotrods.

  2. We are guests on the mountain. We love this area of the country and want to be invited back. Dip under the speed limit in town. Tread lightly around homes and businesses. Wave at everyone you pass! You’ll get a lot of waves back.

  3. These roads are sparsely traveled, but you will encounter trucks/heavy equipment, motorcycles, and all kinds of critters. Keep an eye out for fellow rallye goers as some of the routes go out and return on the same roads. You will have very limited cell reception and the closest hospital is over an hour away.

  4. Each morning you’ll have cold tires, cold brakes, and cold brains. Take it slow and warm each of them accordingly.

  5. Crossing a double yellow centerline is never cool. If you’re driving at a fraction of you and your car’s ability, there’s no need to cross over. Also, give local drivers you encounter some space – they’ll rarely hold you up for more than a mile or two before they pull off or you can safely pass.

  6. This is a vintage rallye. We recommend putting the lighter “momentum cars” out in front of your run groups. These lower HP cars set a nice pace that minimizes the “accordion effect.”

  7. You are responsible for the rally goer behind you. Enter the chain method. Check up when turning onto the next road and make sure you can see them. If you can't, toss your hazards on and slow down. The car ahead of you will then do the same and so on, until the group can get back together.

  8. Bring an FRS radio. These are invaluable in keeping your group together and aware of potential hazards.

  9. It’s advisable for lead cars to have a co-driver to navigate and radio back to the cars behind. Set a reasonable pace. At 10/10ths you have no room to slow down should you need to. Build pace slowly. Take time to get comfortable with the car, the conditions, and your run group’s ability.

  10. Just remember, we’re on vacation! Stop along the way to check stuff out. The map is filled with bangers but there’s time built into the day to explore. Take your time and enjoy - you have no one to impress. Be safe and let’s have fun.
